Client: The Department of Industry, Science and Resources

Engineer: MEC

Description: The high voltage laboratory is located at the CSIRO establishment in Lindfield, Sydney. It’s functions include such things as testing equipment for the national electricity grid and componentry in the wind power generators. The building was constructed in the early 1970’s. The floor of the building is a heavy reinforced concrete slab that is subjected to heavy wheel loads and hard-wheeled forklifts. After many years of being subjected to these loads the joints in the slab have developed significant steps and deterioration of the corners. Repair methods were limited by the need to avoid materials that conduct electricity. MEC prepared a report on the causes of the defects and methods of rectification followed by the provision of tender documents for the repairs.
