A new fire station for the Windsor district comprising a twin vehicle covered engine bay and an administrative office.
The structure to the engine bay is a structural steel portal frame and to the office building a cold-formed steel frame. Ground conditions are a deep profile of reactive clay over shale rock at 6 metres depth. The floor slab to the administrative building and the main columns to the engine bay are supported by screw piles. A cellular cardboard underlay protects the slab from moisture induced movements in the clays.
The pavement serving the fire engines is of reinforced concrete overlying a prepared subgrade and crushed rock base.
